Cornerstone was built in 1902 as an Episcopal church, serving for more than 50 years as a place of worship until its deconsecration in 1956 when it passed into private hands.

Chimney stones became the foundation for the rock garden. Where possible, original architectural elements were refurbished and once again incorporated. Windows were replaced and repointed. Wainscoting was temporarily removed to permit insulating and wiring. Squirrels relocated to the former bell tower.
